F.N. Sharp Knife Review – My Experience
Our entire family loves to cook and experiment with different recipes. We know the importance of having a good set of knives in the kitchen. Over the years, we’ve had many different knife sets. Some we loved. Others not so much. A few months ago, I decided to try out F.N. Sharp Knives. The company promises to deliver top-quality knives to home cooks and professional chefs alike. In this comprehensive review, I’ll be diving into what sets F.N. Sharp Knives apart from the competition and whether or not they’re worth the investment.
Introduction to F.N. Sharp Knives
F.N. Sharp Knives is a relatively new company that was founded in 2018 by a team of knife enthusiasts. They wanted to create a brand that put quality and performance first. That mantra sounds good! Their knives are designed in the USA and made in Japan by master craftsmen who have been making knives for generations. What sets F.N. Sharp Knives apart is their commitment to using only the highest-quality materials and their innovative sharpening system, which ensures that their knives are always razor-sharp.
What Makes F.N. Sharp Knives Unique?
One of the things that immediately stood out to me about F.N. Sharp Knives is their sharpening system. Unlike traditional sharpening methods, which can be time-consuming and difficult to master, F.N. Sharp Knives uses a unique process that involves sharpening the knives at a precise angle using a diamond-coated sharpening wheel. This ensures that the knives are always sharp and ready to use, without the need for regular sharpening.
Of course, most of us have a knife sharpener in our kitchen. But having a knife that is created sharp sounded like a good starting point. Hopefully, that meant I might not have to sharpen as often, either. Another unique aspect of F.N. Sharp Knives is their commitment to using only the best materials. Their knives are made from high-quality Japanese steel, which is known for its durability and sharpness. The handles are made from Pakkawood, a composite material that is both beautiful and functional. Overall, F.N. Sharp Knives are designed to be both aesthetically pleasing and functional.

The F.N. Knife Collection
Each knife is designed for a specific task, and the range of options ensures that you can find the right knife for your needs. Additionally, F.N. Sharp Knives offers a knife set that includes all of their knives, which is a great option for those who want a complete set.
3 Knife Set
The 3 knife set consists of:
- 8″ Chef Knife
- 6″ Santoku Knife
- 3.5″ Paring Knife
- Acacia Wood Knife Block (optional add on)
This is a good basic starter set that handles the basics and features the most important tool set. I wish it had the serrated bread knife included, but that is available separately.
6 Knife Set
The 6 knife set gives you a complete kitchen knife set. It includes:
- 8″ Chef Knife
- 8″ Bread Knife
- 6″ Santoku knife
- 5.5″ Boning knife
- 5.5″ Utility knife
- 3.5″ Paring knife
- Acacia wood Knife block (optional add on)
While you might not use each of these knives every day, I think that they all are quite useful for many tasks. Since it includes the Bread knife and 2 others, it is my choice for a complete kitchen set.
Steak Knife Set
Yes, I include the steak knife set here. While we choose to eat plant-based (vegan) foods, sometimes a sharp knife like the steak knife comes in handy. For instance, when we serve seitan cutlets, these knives cut through the thicker cutlets with ease. Yes, the typical butter knife handles most of the jobs just fine. But we use steak knives quite often, too.
I like that the F.N. Sharp steak knife set goes beyond the standard utility function, though. The non-serrated blade makes a clean slice without tearing and shredding. That’s perfect for showcasing our cutlets and even larger vegetables. The blade also features the unique feathered Damascus pattern and that extra sharp cutting edge.
This is a four knife set. I wish they had a 6-knife set option, but we work with the 4-knife set and share when needed.
They have a full tang G10 handle that feels quite nice to handle as you cut through the food. And if you don’t like to call it a steak knife, just call it your sharp table knife!
Limited Line of Knives
At this point in my research, I noticed that F.N.Sharp had a limited line of knives. Where most manufacturers seem to carry dozens of different styles and materials, F.N.Sharp seems dedicated to producing a single line with what they consider the best materials and workmanship.
This means I don’t have many choices. I can choose how many knives to add to my knife set. But the other variations aren’t there. For me, that’s not a game changer. I just want an excellent quality knife for my vegetarian cooking.
F.N. Sharp Knives Review Of Materials
As I mentioned earlier, F.N. Sharp Knives uses only the highest-quality materials in their knives. The blades are made from Japanese steel, which is known for its sharpness and durability. I prefer the Japanese style blade over the alternative German style for vegan cooking. The handles are made from Pakkawood, a composite material that is both beautiful and functional. Overall, the materials used in F.N. Sharp Knives are designed to withstand regular use and maintain their sharpness over time.
Key Features of the F.N. Sharp Knife Collection

- Unique Damascus feather pattern
- Full tang construction
- Excellent sharp edge retention
- Rust resistant
- 26 degree double bevel edge for a durable, yet sharp cutting edge

F.N. Sharp Knives Performance and Durability
When it comes to performance and durability, F.N. Sharp Knives really delivers. The knives are incredibly sharp and cut through food with ease. We tested on vegetables and different fruit. Each knife performed perfectly. I was able to slice tomatoes into very even thin slices without squashing the tomato. It performed well on harder vegetables like winter squash, too. Additionally, the unique sharpening system ensures that the knives are always ready to use, without the need for regular sharpening.
In terms of durability, F.N. Sharp Knives are designed to withstand regular use. The high-quality materials used in the knives ensure that they maintain their sharpness over time, and the handles are comfortable to hold and provide a secure grip. Overall, F.N. Sharp Knives are built to last and are a great investment for anyone who loves to cook.
User Experience and Customer Reviews
Before buying, I was curious to see what other people had to say about F.N. Sharp Knives, so I did some research online. Overall, the reviews were overwhelmingly positive. Customers raved about the sharpness of the knives and how easy they were to use. Additionally, many customers commented on the beautiful design of the knives and how they looked great in their kitchens.
One thing that stood out to me in the reviews was the customer service provided by F.N. Sharp Knives. Customers consistently praised the company for their responsive and helpful customer service, which is always a good sign.
Time for Me to Try Them!
As mentioned above, we tried several tests with the knives.
Large beefsteak tomato: We easily cut thin slices of the tomato for use on our homemade oat burgers. The slices were even and our Santoku knife didn’t hesitate to cut through the skin. Left handed people will appreciate that the double bevel of the knife makes it easy to switch from right to left.
Butternut Squash: For this, I used the Chef Knife. I’ve had some knives that would cut hard winter squash varieties like the butternut squash and acorn squash, but I never considered them easy to use. I’m not particularly strong, and that adds to the issue. The F.N.Sharp Chef Knife proved itself worthy for the squash test. It sliced through easily, giving me two perfect halves. No need to ask my son to cut the squash with this chef knife.
My paring knife needs to be ready for daily use. We use paring knives for many things including peeling fruit and even cutting up herbs. I need a paring knife that stays sharp.
I was impressed with the extra sharp blade on the paring knife. Too often, paring knives seem to be an afterthought with knife manufacturers. Not so with this one. It’s razor sharp and has a comfortable handle.
The bread knife in the set was the only one with a serrated edge. For bread cutting, this is essential. It easily cut through our loaf of bread that was still warm from baking. We then tested on other breads including English Muffins and a bagel. It sliced easily through each and gave more control than my previous bread knife.
What I Like About These Knives – My F.N.Sharp Knife Review
First, they perform incredibly well! I like that they are extra sharp knives and that they fit comfortably in my hand. The handles look quite sharp but the fact that they stay looking beautiful even after many uses is even better.
When I tested them, each of the knives handled well. I felt like I had more control than with many other knives I’ve tried. After testing on several different types of food, my hand was not feeling tired or strained. That is due to the comfortable handle and the balance of the knife. I was able to slice and cut a variety of vegetables, fruit, and bread with ease. Overall, I’m quite impressed!
F.N. Sharp Knives Pricing and Affordability
F.N. Sharp Knives are definitely an investment, but they are priced competitively with other high-end knife brands. The price point may be a bit steep for some home cooks, but for those who are serious about cooking and want a set of knives that will last a lifetime, F.N. Sharp Knives are definitely worth the investment.
F.N. Sharp Knives Warranty and Customer Service
F.N. Sharp Knives offers a lifetime warranty on their knives, which is a testament to their commitment to quality and durability. Additionally, their customer service is said to be top-notch, with responsive and helpful representatives who are always willing to assist with any questions or concerns. To be fair in this review, I did not need to use their customer service myself. The order arrived in perfect condition with no problems.
Comparison with Other Knife Brands
When it comes to comparing F.N. Sharp Knives to other high-end knife brands, there are definitely some similarities and differences. In terms of quality and performance, F.N. Sharp Knives hold their own against other top brands. However, their unique sharpening system and commitment to using only the best materials set them apart from the competition.
Other Products F.N. Sharp Offers
While they are known for their high quality knives, fn sharp offers a few accessories, too. They have Acacia wood cutting boards which appear very well crafted. Since I already have several boards, I did not test these.
They also carry an Acacia wood knife block. Again, I didn’t purchase this as I don’t use a knife block but the design is beautiful.
However, take note of their waxed cotton apron and the waxed canvas knife roll. If you are serious about cooking, the apron provides a great way to keep your clothes neat and clean. I’m thinking about getting one myself. But the knife roll will be coming soon! Yes, I’ve wanted a good quality knife roll to protect my knives. And I didn’t want a leather roll. Waxed canvas? that sounds perfect!
Shipping and Returns Are Easy, Too
F.N. Sharp offers free standard shipping. Buy them online, and when they arrive, try them for a full 100 days. Yes, they have a 100-day return policy. Although I doubt you will want to return them once you give them a test run in your kitchen.
Should You Buy F.N. Sharp Knives?
After testing out F.N. Sharp Knives and doing research on the company, I can confidently say that they are a great investment for anyone who loves to cook. Their commitment to quality and performance, combined with their innovative sharpening system and high-quality materials, make them stand out from the competition.
Yes, the price is a bit higher than what you find in your local retail stores. But you are investing in a knife that will last a long time. Dull knives are not fun and these knives promise to retain the sharp factory edge through many uses beyond what the cheaper knives do.
In my opinion, while they may be a bit more expensive than some other knife brands, the investment is worth it for the long-lasting durability and top-notch performance. If you’re in the market for a new set of knives, I highly recommend checking out F.N. Sharp Knives.
