Deep Frying or Air Frying?

Is there anything more mouthwatering than that? No matter which path you take to get your hands on these heavenly morsels, deep frying or air frying, they will be sure to satisfy any craving. While deep-fried pickles are undeniably delicious, there are multiple benefits of using an air fryer. Air fryers use less oil than traditional deep fryers and produce significantly fewer emissions, thus improving air quality. In terms of taste and texture, however, the debate between deep-frying and air-frying is ongoing; some prefer the softer crunch the air-frying produces, and others prefer the traditional deep-fried for their extra crunch and crispiness. So no matter which option you choose, crispy fried pickles will undoubtedly be a hit!

Let's gather the ingredients!

  • 2 cup dill pickles drained, sliced
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup water
  • tsp cajun seasoning
  • ½ tsp italian seasoning
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper ground
  • peanut or vegetable oil for frying or use an air fryer

Let's Begin!

  • For Deep Frying: In a pot over medium-high heat, heat 1 inch of peanut or vegetable oil until a deep-fry thermometer registers 375°F.
  • For Air Frying: Set the air fryer to 375°F.
  • Spread the pickles on paper towels, then pat them dry.
  • In a large bowl, whisk the flour, cajun seasoning, Italian seasoning, cayenne, salt, pepper, and water until smooth.
  • Add half of the pickles to the batter and toss to coat. Remove from the batter using a slotted spoon, letting the excess drip off.
  • If Deep Frying, add them to the hot oil one at a time, then fry until golden brown. Immediately drain on paper towels to remove extra oil.
  • If Air Frying, lay the coated pickles in parchment paper or aluminum foil before placing them in the air fryer. Air fry for 5-7 minutes until golden brown.
  • Serve warm, and enjoy with family and friends!
