But fear not, even if you’re whipping up a batch of homemade cream puffs with luscious whipped cream or cream puff filling, these recipes are actually really easy, no matter what size batch you’re making.

Originally these cream puffs are not vegan but in this recipe blog post we will make these small batches of cream puffs perfect for vegetarians.

Cream puffs are usually non-vegan. This time we were using plant-based ingredients. And also they are easy to find they are mostly in your kitchen.
1. Butter
- Make sure they are vegan, dairy-free, and non-dairy.
2. Natural Sweetener
- Use raw sugar, organic, or unrefined sugar. They are vegan I highly recommended Bob’s Red Mill brand.
3. Kosher salt
- Use to balance the taste of the sweetness of these cream puffs.
4. All-purpose flour
- Feel free to use almond flour, coconut flour, corn flour, or rice flour. To make this recipe gluten-free use certified gluten-free flour.
5. Flax seeds
- As a vegan recipe, instead of using eggs use 1 tablespoon of flax seeds plus 3 tablespoons of water. Or feel free to use egg vegan substitutes such as aquafaba, chia egg, applesauce, etc.
6. Powdered Sugar
- Make sure they are organic I highly recommended Bob’s Red Mill brand. They produce organic and vegan products.
7. Instant Vanilla Pudding
- You can make homemade vanilla pudding and there is a storebought. If you prefer to buy a vanilla pudding choose an instant vanilla pudding. Make a habit to check all the labels.

8. Plant-based Milk
- Feel free to use your favorite unsweetened milk, non-dairy milk, or plant-based milk.

These are easy to make all you have is an oven, spoon, baking sheet, saucepan, and measuring cup. They are done in 35 minutes–and tada you have an oh-so-puff cream puff on hand!
1. Preheat the oven to 425° F.
2. In a saucepan, melt the vegan butter, sugar, and kosher salt with water.
3. Add gradually the flour and flax seed mixture and whisk with a spoon till they completely combine or at least 1-2 minutes. Set them aside and let them cool.
4. On a parchment-lined baking sheet, scoop the dough with a cookie scoop and bake for at least 11-12 minutes or till they turn to a golden brown. Transfer them to the cooling rack.
5. In a measuring cup, mix the instant vanilla pudding or lemon curd if prefer. Refrigerate till they set.
6. Using a spoon, scoop the pudding or lemon curd into each cream puff. Before serving, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Recipe Note
- Soggy Pastry: To prevent this, make sure the cream puffs are completely cool before filling them with vanilla pudding or lemon curd.
- Collapse Pastry: Avoid under-baking and make sure that the cream puffs are almost hollow. If the pastry has moist let them cool for a minute.
Storing Tips
- Refrigerate them uncovered but I highly suggest to served them after baking as they are best served when fresh from the oven.

Ingredients
- ¾ cup Swerve granulated
- 2 tablespoon cornstarch
- ¾ cup almond milk or other plant-based milk
- ½ cup lemon juice about 2-3 lemons
- 3 teaspoons lemon zest use a little extra for more lemony flavor
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric optional for color
Instructions
- In a small pot, whisk together the Swerve and cornstarch.
- Mix in the almond milk, lemon juice, lemon zest, and turmeric.
- Cook over medium heat, whisking frequently, until the curd thickens, about 5 minutes. Use care to whisk vigorously as it thickens to ensure a smooth curd.
- Remove from heat and pour into a glass or stainless container to cool. Enjoy warm or store in the fridge for up to 1 week. It will thicken more as it cools.
