Is Phyllo Dough Vegan?

For many years, phyllo dough has been used as an ingredient in some of the world’s tastiest dishes. It is a very popular vegetarian option, but you may be wondering whether it is vegan-friendly. The answer is yes! Phyllo dough is made without any animal products, such as butter or eggs, making it suitable for vegans to enjoy. However, certain recipes or varieties of phyllo dough may contain non-vegan ingredients so make sure to read the packaging carefully before buying. With this being said, there are a wide variety of vegan recipes using phyllo dough; from hearty vegetable pies to decadent desserts like baklava.

Leftovers & Storage

Spanakopita is best served right away, but if you have leftovers they’ll keep in a sealed container in the fridge for about 3 days, or in the freezer for about 3 months.

To reheat, thaw your pie (if it was frozen), then place it into a 400°F oven until heated through. If you’d like, you can place it under a broiler for a few minutes after heating to re-crisp the pastry.
